# How Much Does It Cost to Register a Company in Singapore?

If you are considering starting a company in Singapore, one of the first questions you may have is: **how much does it actually cost to register a company?**

For a Singapore private limited company, the basic government registration fees are relatively straightforward. ACRA currently charges **S$15 to apply for a company name and S$300 to register a new company**, making the basic ACRA setup fee **S$315**. [ACRA's official fee schedule](https://www.acra.gov.sg/manage/companies/service-transaction-fees/) provides the latest company registration fees and transaction charges.

However, the actual cost of setting up a company can be higher depending on the support and services your business needs.

You may also need to budget for services such as a corporate secretary, registered office address, nominee director if applicable, accounting, tax compliance, payroll and other corporate administration.

So, while the government registration fee is only one part of the picture, understanding the **total cost of setting up and maintaining a Singapore company** can help you plan your budget more realistically.

1\. What Is the Basic Cost of Registering a Company in Singapore?

For a standard Singapore company, ACRA's current fees are:

| **Registration item** | **Government fee** |
| --- | --- |
| Company name application | S$15 |
| Company incorporation | S$300 |
| **Total basic registration fee** | **S$315** |

The S$15 name application fee is required when reserving a business name, while the S$300 fee applies when registering the new company through Bizfile.

You can check the latest charges directly on [ACRA's Service and Transaction Fees page](https://www.acra.gov.sg/manage/companies/service-transaction-fees/), as government fees and requirements can change over time.

This means that if you are looking only at the **mandatory ACRA registration fees**, you can register a Singapore company for S$315.

But S$315 does not necessarily represent the total amount you will spend to get your business ready to operate.

2\. What Other Costs Should You Budget For?

The cost of incorporating a company depends on your circumstances and how much support you need.

For example, a founder may need to consider:

- Company registration fees
- Corporate secretary services
- Registered office address
- Nominee director services, where applicable
- Corporate bank account setup
- Accounting and bookkeeping
- Corporate tax filing
- Payroll and HR administration
- Business licences or permits, if required
- Other compliance and corporate administration services

Some of these are not government registration fees. They are professional or operational costs that may apply depending on your business structure, activities and circumstances.

This is why two businesses can have very different startup costs even though they both pay the same basic ACRA incorporation fee.

If you are still planning your incorporation, you can also learn more about [incorporating your business in Singapore](https://jwc.com.sg/resources/unlocking-success-incorporating-your-business-in-singapore) and the key considerations for getting started.

3\. Do You Need to Pay for a Company Secretary?

A Singapore company must appoint a company secretary within **six months of incorporation**, subject to the applicable requirements.

The company secretary plays an important role in maintaining corporate records and helping the company meet its statutory obligations.

For a first-time founder, this is one of the costs worth considering beyond the initial S$315 incorporation fee.

Rather than viewing the company secretary as simply an administrative expense, it can be useful to think of the role as part of your company's ongoing compliance infrastructure.

ACRA's [post-registration guide for local companies](https://www.acra.gov.sg/register/business/after-registering/local-company/) outlines key responsibilities that companies need to consider after incorporation, including company registers, licences, company secretary requirements and other corporate matters.

4\. What If You Are a Foreign Founder?

For founders based outside Singapore, incorporation may involve additional considerations.

A Singapore company needs to meet local requirements, including having at least one director who meets Singapore's local residency requirements.

Foreign founders may therefore need additional support depending on their circumstances, such as a nominee director arrangement or assistance with the incorporation process.

These services are **separate from ACRA's S$315 government registration fee**, so international founders should avoid assuming that the government fee represents their entire setup cost.

If you are a foreign entrepreneur planning to establish a Singapore business, understanding the incorporation requirements before starting the application can help you avoid unexpected costs or delays.

You can also explore JWC's [Singapore company incorporation support](https://jwc.com.sg/resources/unlocking-success-incorporating-your-business-in-singapore) for guidance on the broader setup process.

5\. What About Accounting and Tax Costs?

Your company costs do not stop once the incorporation is approved.

Once your company begins operating, you will need to maintain proper accounting records and meet applicable tax and filing obligations.

Singapore's standard Corporate Income Tax rate is currently **17% of chargeable income**. You can find the latest information on [IRAS Corporate Income Tax rates](https://www.iras.gov.sg/quick-links/tax-rates/corporate-income-tax-rates).

However, corporate tax is not simply an additional fee for registering a company. It is a tax on taxable business income, and the actual amount your company pays depends on its financial position and applicable tax rules.

New companies may also qualify for Singapore's start-up tax exemption scheme, subject to the relevant conditions. IRAS provides further information about the [Corporate Income Tax exemption scheme for new companies](https://www.iras.gov.sg/quick-links/tax-rates/corporate-income-tax-rates).

This is why proper bookkeeping and tax planning from the beginning can be important, even for a newly incorporated company.

Maintaining accurate records throughout the year can also make tax preparation easier. If you need professional support, JWC provides [accounting and bookkeeping services](https://jwc.com.sg/accounting-services-singapore) for businesses operating in Singapore.

6\. Are There Annual Costs After Incorporation?

Yes.

Company registration is not a one-time expense. Singapore companies have ongoing corporate compliance requirements.

For example, ACRA currently charges **S$60 to file an annual return**. You can check the latest filing requirements and fees on [ACRA's annual return filing guide](https://www.acra.gov.sg/manage/companies/legal-requirements-common-offences/filing-annual-returns-companies/steps-to-file/).

Depending on the company, there may also be recurring costs for:

- Corporate secretary services
- Accounting and bookkeeping
- Tax filing
- Registered office services
- Payroll
- HR administration
- Audit, where applicable
- Business licences or permits
- Other corporate compliance requirements

The exact annual cost depends on the size and complexity of the business.

A small company with limited transactions may have very different accounting and administrative requirements from a company with employees, multiple shareholders or more complex business activities.

7\. Do You Need a Business Licence?

Not every company needs an additional business licence, but registration with ACRA does not automatically give you permission to carry out every type of business activity.

Depending on what your company does, you may need additional licences or permits before starting operations.

For example, requirements can vary depending on the industry, business activity, premises, employment arrangements or whether the company imports or exports goods.

ACRA recommends checking the relevant licensing requirements after incorporation. You can also use the [GoBusiness Licensing portal](https://licence1.business.gov.sg/licence1/authentication/mainLogin.action) to identify licences and permits that may apply to your business.

It is therefore important to check the applicable licensing requirements rather than assuming that incorporation alone is enough.

8\. What Is the Real Cost of Starting a Singapore Company?

A useful way to think about the cost is to separate it into three categories:

Government fees

These are fees paid directly to the Singapore authorities.

For a standard company:

**S$15 name application + S$300 incorporation = S$315**

There is also a current ACRA fee of **S$60 for filing the annual return**.

These figures reflect the current fees published by [ACRA](https://www.acra.gov.sg/manage/companies/service-transaction-fees/), but it is always worth checking the official fee schedule before submitting an application.

Professional setup costs

These depend on the services you require.

They may include:

- Corporate secretary
- Registered office
- Nominee director, if required
- Incorporation assistance
- Corporate administration

Ongoing operating costs

Once your company starts operating, you may need to budget for:

- Bookkeeping
- Accounting
- Corporate tax
- Payroll
- HR
- Audit, where applicable
- Licences and permits
- Annual compliance

So, the better question is not simply **"How much is company registration in Singapore?"**

It is:

**"How much will it cost to set up and properly maintain my company?"**

That gives you a much more realistic picture of the financial commitment.

Singapore Company Registration Cost: Quick Checklist

| Cost area | What to consider |
| --- | --- |
| ACRA name application | S$15 |
| ACRA incorporation | S$300 |
| Basic government setup fee | **S$315** |
| Annual return filing | S$60 |
| Corporate secretary | Recurring professional cost |
| Registered office | May be required depending on your setup |
| Nominee director | May apply to certain foreign-owned structures |
| Accounting & bookkeeping | Depends on transaction volume and complexity |
| Corporate tax | Based on chargeable income |
| Payroll & HR | Depends on whether you employ staff |
| Licences & permits | Depends on your business activities |

The important thing to remember is that **S$315 is the basic government incorporation cost, not necessarily the total cost of starting a business in Singapore.**

9\. What About Payroll and HR Costs?

If you plan to hire employees, payroll and HR administration can become another ongoing business cost.

Depending on your workforce, you may need to manage payroll calculations, employee records, statutory contributions, leave administration and other employment-related requirements.

These costs are not part of the ACRA incorporation fee, but they are important to consider when planning your overall operating budget.

If you are looking to outsource these functions, JWC provides [payroll and HR services](https://jwc.com.sg/human-resources-outsource-services) to help businesses manage their ongoing employment administration.

So, How Much Should You Budget?

For a straightforward Singapore company, the **mandatory ACRA registration fees start at S$315**.

But your overall setup budget will depend on whether you need additional corporate services and whether you are a local or foreign founder.

For example, a founder who already has the necessary local structure and manages their own administration may have a relatively simple setup.

A foreign entrepreneur who needs incorporation assistance, a nominee director, registered office services, corporate secretary support and ongoing accounting will have a significantly different cost structure.

Understanding these differences before you incorporate can help you avoid unexpected expenses later.

Don't Just Budget for Incorporation — Budget for Compliance

One of the easiest mistakes for first-time founders is focusing entirely on the incorporation fee.

The S$315 government fee is relatively small compared with the ongoing costs of running a compliant company.

Once incorporated, you still need to manage corporate records, accounting, tax, annual filings and potentially payroll, HR and licensing requirements.

Putting these systems in place early can make it easier to keep your business organised as it grows.
