With operating costs continuing to put pressure on businesses, every bit of cash flow support can make a difference. [But if you run a Singapore SME, do you know whether your business qualifies for the SME Cash Grant 2026?](https://jwc.com.sg/resources/sme-cash-grant-2026-singapore)

The Singapore Government has introduced a one-off SME Cash Grant 2026 to provide broad-based support for eligible businesses. Eligible businesses with local qualifying employees can receive S500 perlocal qualifying employee. Certain eligible sole proprietorships and partnerships that do not employ local qualifying employees may instead receive a flat S$500 grant. The grant is scheduled to be disbursed in November 2026, and eligible businesses do not need to apply. IRAS will automatically assess businesses against the scheme's criteria. ## **What Is the SME Cash Grant 2026?**

The SME Cash Grant 2026 is a one-off cash support measure designed to help eligible Singapore businesses manage higher costs and cash flow pressures. [IRAS](https://www.iras.gov.sg/schemes/disbursement-schemes/SME-Cash-Grant-2026) will automatically assess ACRA-registered companies, sole proprietorships and partnerships, including limited liability partnerships, against the eligibility criteria. Businesses that qualify do not need to submit a grant application.

The grant is based primarily on the number of local qualifying employees during the April to June 2026 qualifying period.

## **How Much Can Your Business Receive?**

| Highest local qualifying employee headcount | SME Cash Grant 2026 |
| --- | --- |
| 1 employee | S$500 |
| 2 employees | S$1,000 |
| 3 employees | S$1,500 |
| 4 employees | S$2,000 |
| 5 or more employees | S$2,500 maximum |

[IRAS](https://www.iras.gov.sg/contact-us/schemes)calculates the grant using the highest number of local qualifying employees in any month between April and June 2026, provided the relevant CPF contributions were made by the stipulated deadline.

## **Who Is Eligible for the SME Cash Grant 2026?**

IRAS states that ACRA-registered companies, sole proprietorships, partnerships and limited liability partnerships in Singapore will be automatically assessed. To qualify, the business must be active and registered in Singapore at the point of disbursement in November 2026, and must meet at least one of the applicable size criteria: annual revenue of no more than S$100 million for YA 2025, filed and assessed by IRAS as at 31 August 2026, or no more than 200 employees as at 30 June 2026.

Individuals who employ workers in their personal capacity under their NRIC are not eligible because the scheme is intended for ACRA-registered business entities.

## **What Counts as a Local Qualifying Employee?**

For the SME Cash Grant 2026, local employees are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents. A company shareholder who is also a director may be counted as an employee for the scheme where the applicable employee conditions are met. Sole proprietors and partners in a partnership are not treated as employees for this calculation.

This distinction matters because business owners should not simply count everyone who works in the business. The grant calculation follows the specific definitions used by IRAS.

## **What If Your Business Has No Local Employees?**

For this flat grant, the relevant local business owner must have net trade income of no more than S$100,000 for YA 2025, declared and assessed by IRAS as at 31 August 2026. There are additional rules for businesses with multiple sole proprietorships or partnerships, so owners with multiple entities should review the official IRAS guidance carefully.

## **Do Businesses Need to Apply?**

No. Eligible businesses do not need to submit an application. IRAS will automatically assess businesses using information available to it.

However, automatic assessment does not mean business owners should ignore their records. The information used to determine eligibility includes business registration, tax information and CPF contribution data. Keeping these records accurate and up to date can help reduce avoidable issues.

## **When Will the SME Cash Grant Be Paid?**

Eligible businesses are expected to receive the SME Cash Grant 2026 in November 2026. IRAS will notify eligible businesses through myTax Portal and by letter sent to the business's registered address.

The grant will be paid through GIRO or PayNow Corporate. Businesses should therefore make sure that an appropriate payment arrangement is available before the disbursement period.

## **What Should Businesses Check Before November?**

Even though no application is required, there are several practical checks businesses can make now:

· Confirm that the business remains active and registered in Singapore.

· Review whether the business meets the applicable revenue or employee-size criterion.

· Check local employee records for April, May and June 2026.

· Confirm that CPF contributions for the qualifying period were made by the prescribed deadlines.

· Review YA 2025 tax information and make sure relevant filings have been properly submitted and assessed.

· Check that the registered business address is current so important IRAS correspondence is not missed.

· Confirm that PayNow Corporate is linked to the business UEN or that a valid GIRO arrangement is available.

· Monitor myTax Portal for the eligibility notification and any further instructions from IRAS.

## **The Eligibility Checker Is Coming**

IRAS has stated that an SME Cash Grant 2026 Eligibility Checker will be made available from mid-October 2026. This will give businesses another way to confirm whether they meet the scheme's eligibility criteria.

Until then, businesses can use the official IRAS criteria as a guide and review their tax, CPF, ACRA and payment records.

## **Is the SME Cash Grant 2026 Taxable?**

Yes. IRAS states that the SME Cash Grant 2026 is taxable. For individuals and partnerships, the grant is automatically included in the relevant Form B or Form P. Companies should declare the grant in the applicable corporate income tax return, such as Form C, Form C-S or Form C-S Lite.

This is worth highlighting because businesses may receive different types of government support during the same period, and the tax treatment may not be the same for every scheme. The SME Cash Grant 2026 should therefore be recorded separately and reviewed as part of the company's accounting and tax records.

## **Why Accurate Payroll and Accounting Records Matter**

The SME Cash Grant 2026 is a cash support measure, but the calculation depends on information that businesses already maintain as part of their normal operations.

Employee headcount is linked to CPF contribution records. Tax eligibility relies on information assessed by IRAS. Payment depends on having a valid GIRO or PayNow Corporate arrangement. For that reason, accurate bookkeeping, payroll records and timely statutory contributions remain important even when a government grant does not require a formal application.

For growing SMEs, this is also a reminder that good financial records are not only useful at tax-filing time. They help businesses understand cash flow, manage payroll, reconcile transactions and respond more confidently when government support or compliance requirements change.

## **Common Mistakes to Avoid**

· Assuming every business automatically receives the full S$2,500.

· Counting business owners as employees when they do not meet the scheme's employee definition.

· Ignoring whether CPF contributions for the qualifying period were made on time.

· Assuming a business with no local employees automatically receives the flat S$500 grant — that option applies to eligible sole proprietorships and partnerships under specific conditions.

· Waiting until November to check PayNow Corporate or GIRO details.

· Forgetting that the SME Cash Grant 2026 is taxable.

· Confusing the SME Cash Grant 2026 with other 2026 business support measures that have different eligibility and tax treatment.
